Data reveals troubling facts!    
       

Although Oakville is recognized as one of the wealthiest towns in Canada, 
the 2006 census data reveals some disturbing facts:

 

  • 1 in 9 children in Oakville lives in poverty
     

  • 1 in 8 families are headed by a lone parent  and 1 in 4 single mothers lives in poverty
     

  • 29.4% of recent immigrants live in poverty
     

  • 24% do not have English or French as their mother tongue
     


2008 Department of Education statistics reveal that in Oakville:

  • 9% population aged 25 and older do not have high school diploma
     

  • Testing at school entry showed that 13 to 19%of  5 year olds were developmentally vulnerable
